LSU women’s basketball lands in-conference transfer portal commitment

Just yesterday, Sunday, March 24, LSU women’s basketball achieved their second win of the 2024 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament and booked their ticket to the Sweet 16. Even so, this hasn’t stopped the coaching staff from making moves off the court, as the Tigers have officially landed a transfer commitment from former Arkansas guard Jersey Wolfenbarger.

LSU women’s basketball lands big-time SEC transfer portal commitment

A majority percentage of the success LSU women’s basketball is currently experiencing on the court can be attributed to work in the transfer portal. While coach Kim Mulkey has also done some impressive things in the world of recruiting and development, it’s the portal that has truly allowed the Tigers to surge over the last two seasons.

Some names of note include former Maryland forward Angel Reese, former DePaul forward Aneesah Morrow and former Louisville guard Hailey Van Lith. Interestingly enough, each of said players were ranked among the best recruits in the country in their respective cycles, and it now appears as though the purple and gold are looking for their next wave of impact players.

Today, the LSU coaching staff got the transfer portal season off to a hot start, landing a commitment from former Arkansas guard Jersey Wolfenbarger.

There are plenty of aspects that standout when looking at the big-time transfer commitment, but possibly the most impressive is the height that comes along with the talented soon-to-be senior.

A former five-star recruit in the class of 2021, the product out of Fort Smith, AR, is listed at an astounding 6-foot-5. When it comes to college women’s basketball in general, size like hers doesn’t come around very often, so when you consider the fact that she’s a true guard, it becomes all the more impressive.

As a freshman in 2021-22, Wolfenbarger had a Freshman All-SEC type season, recording 7.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.9 blocks per game. With her skillset, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that she did it all for the Razorbacks.

Notably, the impressive guard was not a part of the Arkansas program during the 2023-24 season, but instead elected to enter the transfer portal in preparation for the following 2024-25 year.

With plenty of seemingly untapped potential heading into her true senior year, it’s hard not to feel excited about what she could do as a part of the LSU women’s basketball program under coach Kim Mulkey.
