San Antonio Spurs Star Reveals Michael Jordan-Like Mentality Before Major Phoenix Suns Upset
Daniel Dunn-USA TODAY Sports

The San Antonio Spurs shocked everyone lately when they got a big win against the Phoenix Suns without leading Rookie of the Year-candidate Victor Wembanyama in the lineup. Turns out, Keldon Johnson shared a mentality that will make Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan proud.

In that game , Johnson and Jeremy Sochan each had 26 points lead San Antonio to a 104-102 win against the Suns . The latter also grabbed 18 boards while shooting 52 percent from the field. Zach Collins added 18 points and five rebounds to help seal the deal for the Spurs.

On the other hand, Phoenix had a big night from Devin Booker who dropped 36 points, six rebounds, and four assists in almost 40 minutes on the court. Kevin Durant also showed off by dropping an efficient 29-point game on 70 percent shooting from the field and 66 percent from beyond the perimeter.

Although San Antonio got the dub, they still hold the worst record in the Western Conference with 16 wins and 56 losses. The Phoenix Suns, meanwhile, are in the eighth-place with a 42-30 record, placing them squarely within the Play-In Tournament.

Keldon Johnson Shares Michael Jordan-Like Mentality In Win Against San Antonio Spurs

Johnson spoke to reporters and shared the Spurs’ mindset heading onto their match against the Phoenix Suns after they lost by 25 points during their prior game. In a tweet by Tom Orsborn on X:

“Keldon said Spurs came in motivated after getting blown out by Suns on Saturday:

“Nobody likes to get beat like that, especially at home, or even on the road….We took it personally,” Orsborn shared.

While the Suns were more efficient on the court, grabbed more rebounds, and dished more assists, San Antonio’s mindset didn’t allow the team to lose the game in their own house. As revealed by Johnson, that Michael Jordan-like mentality is what helped them get the dub against a more talented Suns team.

With only a couple games left in the regular season, every win is a must for the Suns. On the other hand, the Spurs have a chance to improve their roster in the coming offseason, leading to a breakout campaign next year.
