An eight-year veteran receiver, Tyler Boyd and the Tennessee Titans have agreed to a contract. Boyd spent the entirety of his pro career with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Out of Pitt, Boyd was selected in the second round by the Bengals in the 2016 NFL Draft. It took a little bit of time getting into the swing of things and Boyd managed 828 yards and three touchdowns in 26 games in his first two years.

Then, in 2018, Boyd took a massive step forward. He caught 76 passes for 1,028 yards and a career-best seven touchdowns. He backed that up with a career-best 90 catches for 1,046 yards and five touchdowns in 2019.

In 2020, Boyd hauled in 79 passes and accounted for 841 yards and four touchdowns.

Starting in 2021, Boyd became the third receiver with the Bengals behind Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Even then, he amassed 828 yards and five touchdowns off of 67 receptions, nearly being the third 1,000-yard receiver for the Bengals.

In 2022, he finished with 762 yards and another five touchdowns with 58 catches. Finally, Boyd had his least-productive year since 2018 and finished with 667 yards and two scores off of 67 catches.

In terms of Bengals history, Boyd’s career of 513 receptions, 6,000 yards (exactly), and 31 touchdowns rank fourth, seventh, and 11th all-time, respectively.

Boyd was one of the most sure-handed receivers for the Bengals where he has only recorded a 3.1% drop rate since 2018. Spelled out, that’s 20 drops on 640 targets. Boyd was often the go-to receiver for Joe Burrow and Andy Dalton, especially on crucial third downs.

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Boyd’s career in Cincinnati was in 2019 when the Bengals were facing the Miami Dolphins in the “Tank for Tua” Bowl (which, incidentally, the Bengals managed to lose and get the better quarterback while the Dolphins won and drafted Tua Tagovailoa). With just 23 seconds to go in the pillow fight of the year, Boyd caught a 29-yard pass for a first down but resulted in an ankle injury. Instead of staying down and burning a timeout, he crawled to the line of scrimmage to allow Dalton to spike the ball.

Boyd will not garner the high-end cash that the top receivers will but he will be a veteran leader for his team.
