‘No release clause’: Liverpool accelerate plans to appoint 'one of the best' coaches to succeed Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool appears to be finally taking a major step forward in terms of appointing a successor to take over from Jurgen Klopp after he leaves at the end of the season. There has been an interesting update on their desire to bring in Dutch coach Arne Slot as their new manager for next season.

Liverpool Holding Constructive Discussions With Feyenoord For Arne Slot

How Close Are Liverpool To Slot Appointment?

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Liverpool are holding constructive discussions with Feyenoord over the possibility of bringing in Slot as their new manager in the summer. With that being said, a compensation fee has to be agreed between the clubs before the Dutch side lets their manager leave.

Romano also adds that there is “no release clause” in the 45-year-old’s contract which has led to the two clubs having to continue their talks over a possible fee. The journalist further claims that the initial offer from Liverpool was rejected by Feyenoord, but discussions are ongoing. The Merseyside club remain quite confident about their chances of striking an agreement soon.

Slot is also focused on helping his side finish the season strongly, with Feyenoord currently in second place in the Eredivisie table and nine points behind leaders PSV Eindhoven.

What Has Arne Slot Achieved In His Career?

The 45-year-old coach has spent his entire managerial career in the  Netherlands and has been managing at the top level since 2019. He initially started his journey as AZ Alkmaar’s head coach in 2019, after having worked as an interim coach at Cambuur in the 2016/17 season. He helped AZ finish second in the 2019/20 Eredivisie campaign and also reach the UEFA Europa Round of 32 before agreeing to take over at Feyenoord at the start of the 2021/22 term.

Slot helped elevate the quality of Feyenoord and compete for higher honours. He guided them to the Eredivisie title last season, as well as winning the KNVB Cup earlier in this campaign. The 45-year-old has an impressive 64.38% win rate as Feyenoord manager and earned his reputation for helping them play slick, possession-based attacking football. Former Brighton midfielder Alireza Jahanbaksh, who currently plays under Slot, called him “one of the best managers I’ve ever seen”.

Slot reportedly held talks with Tottenham Hotspur last year before they appointed Ange Postecoglou and he also hinted durinng that period about wanting to coach in the Premier League, saying: “A normal next step would be to go abroad and I’ve always said that the best league in the world is the Premier League.” It now appears that he might be taking up the Liverpool job instead even if it remains to be seen if the Reds can secure his appointment anytime soon.
